Water service line inventory
In a nationwide effort to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that all water providers take an inventory of water service line materials. This national effort is part of the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision regulation, or LCRR. Water supplied by Doney Park Water remains in compliance with all federal drinking water regulations and is safe to drink.
Doney Park Water's service line inventory project began in 2022. We are currently performing inspections throughout the system to confirm service line material. To date, DPW has not found any lead service lines in the water system. There is no history of lead service lines being used in construction of the system and DPW has no expectation of finding lead service lines.
If you received a Notice of Unknown Service Line Material it simply means that DPW has no record of the material used in your service line, and/or the service line was installed before the statewide lead ban in June 1988.
What you need to know
Water provided by DPW continues to be safe to drink and meets more than 100 state and federal drinking water standards. You can learn more by visiting the Drinking Water Quality Reports tab of this website
.
You may see a DPW employee inspecting your service line near the water meter serving your property. The employee will be wearing a DPW uniform and driving a truck with the DPW logo. A door hanger will be left at your property to notify you that the inspection occurred and what the result is.
If there is a disruption in water service due to construction, a water main break, or other outage, we are required to issue a notice to customers with unknown service line materials regarding the potential for elevated levels of lead as a result of the disturbance. The notice will contain instructions on how to reduce lead exposure in drinking water.
In the unlikely event that you have lead material in your water service line, we will contact you to discuss your options for line replacement and funding.
You can help Doney Park Water confirm your service line material by performing your own inspection of your service line where it enters your home. The DPW service line survey takes approximately five minutes to complete. Just click on the button below. You will need a camera or smartphone to take pictures, a magnet and a penny or key. The survey is best completed on a smart phone. Information on how to determine service line material can be found in this video.
