Waterline easements must be kept clear. Please be careful not to fence in any Company appurtenances (meters, valves, main water lines, etc.). Any obstructions can hamper our ability to access or repair our equipment.
It is company policy to require a minimum of five (5) feet between fencing and the main waterline. The location of the waterline is made apparent by the Bluestake marks. Company policy also sets the minimum distance of four (4) feet from the edge of the water meter lid to any fencing. The fencing setbacks prescribed benefit both the water company and the customer by ensuring adequate space to repair and maintain infrastructure and lessen the chances of damage to a customer’s fence.
Grading, irrigation, planting sod, etcetera can severely impede repairs and emergency accessibility plus present a hazard for the repairmen. Please keep in mind that as trees and shrubbery mature, their root systems can raise havoc with the mainline and other appurtenances. Please maintain a minimum distance of ten to fifteen feet back from the easement with all trees and deep-rooted shrubs.
If you are installing an irrigation system, a pressure vacuum breaker (PVB) is the minimum required backflow device. There are installation requirements for all backflow devices, so it is best to have the system spec’d out by a professional to avoid problems. As part of Doney Park Water’s backflow program, these backflow devices must be tested yearly by a certified tester and the results furnished to us on DPW forms.
