Flushing the main water line
WHAT IS WATER MAIN FLUSHING?
Water main flushing is a process of cleaning or "scouring" the interior of the water distribution mains (pipes) by sending a rapid flow of water through the mains. Distributions mains deliver water to homes and businesses throughout your neighborhood.
WHY DO WE FLUSH WATER MAIN LINES?
Flushing the water mains helps maintain water quality. Flushing removes sediments from the main. Iron sediments and dissolved manganese both occur naturally in water. The sediments do not pose any health concerns but they do affect the taste, clarity and color of the water. Flushing the water mains help remove "stale" water. Doney Park Water strives to design our distribution main lines in loop or interconnected grids which keeps water constantly moving. In many area where loop or grids could not be implemented the main line comes to a dead end. Dead end lines allow water to stagnate. Flushing dead end lines will replace stale water with fresh water.
WHY WASTE WATER FLUSHING?
Flushing is a necessary part of maintaining our water distribution system and to deliver safe, clean drinking water. Whenever possible we make every effort to conserve water, limiting flushing times to a minimum just to a point where sediment removal, water clarity and water freshness are achieved.
HOW OFTEN DOES DONEY PARK WATER FLUSH LINES?
It is done as needed, not on a regular schedule.
WILL THIS AFFECT HOMES WATER PRESSURE?
This procedure should not affect the pressure in any homes.
